Absolut Vodka boosts Pernod Ricard profits
Strong sales of Absolut vodka have boosted the profits of drinks maker Pernod Ricard.
Beverage company Pernod Ricard has reported at 12.5% rise in annual profits, mainly attributed to strong sales from recent acquisition, Vin & Spirit – the makers of Absolut Vodka.
In its annual sales and results statement, Pernod announced a net profit of €945 million (£829m) in the year ended 30 June 2009, compared with the €840m profit made one year earlier.
The positive sales figures reported are in large part thanks to Pernod’s acquisition of Vin and Spirit and its main brand Absolut Vodka, which is selling strongly.
Sales of other Pernod products also remained strong and reported organic growth during the year, including the brands Jameson, Glenlivet and Mumm.
During the successful year, Pernod has also managed to reduce debt and improve its financial ratios.
The outlook for the French company is also positive following the rise in annual profits. Pierre Pringuet, Chief Executive Officer of the Group, stated: “Despite a particularly difficult environment, the Group achieved a very satisfactory performance in the year just ended.
“We start 2009/10 with confidence and determination: our priorities are clear, continue to reduce debt and strengthen investments behind out strategic brands.”
