Aon named as new Man Utd sponsor
Man Utd replaces AIG with Aon as main shirt sponsor
Manchester United has announced the name of its new sponsor – Aon Corporation – which will take over from AIG at the start of the 2010/11 season.
The terms of the contract are yet to be announced, but as part of the agreement, Aon has signed up to be the shirt sponsor for four years.
Aon Corporation is the leading global provider of risk management services, insurance and reinsurance brokerage. It has more than 500 offices across the world, and employs over 37,000 staff. Unlike many of its financial competitors, it has managed to avoid the effects of the global credit crunch, although in April it announced that its UK arm would be reducing pension contributions for staff in order to remain “protected in challenging conditions.”
Manchester United Chief Executive David Gill commented: “We are delighted to be entering such an important relationship with a company of the stature of Aon and to have its logo adorn our shirts from the start of the 2010/11 season.”
Greg Case, President and CEO of Aon, believes the venture will be a winning one, as the Aon brand has the potential to reach over 330 million Manchester United fans.
“Manchester United is one of the most recognised sports brands in the world,” Mr Case commented. “We play to win in our business, and that is why we believe this partnership will create tremendous benefits for both organisations worldwide.”
The team’s current sponsor, troubled US insurer AIG, announced in January that it would not be renewing its sponsorship after its contract expires in May 2010.
