Construction industry picks its UK star players
The International Construction SuperConference takes place in September.
Building Magazine’s 2008 awards have recognised Nick Raynsford and Ian Tyler – two keynote speakers for the International Construction Superconference to be held in September in London.
The awards recognise best practice, innovation, and excellence in the construction industry. Nick Raynsford, MP and Chairman of UK Construction Industry Council was awarded “Personality of the Year” and Ian Tyler, Chief Executive of Balfour Beatty, was awarded “Chief Executive of the Year.”
The industry-popular Nick Raynsford is said to be one of the most effective construction ministers the UK has ever had, and he recently hit the headlines when he wrote to Prime Minister Gordon Brown complaining that there had been seven construction ministers in as many years. Well acquainted with large infrastructure projects, particularly railways, Nick is fighting again over Crossrail, the railway that will be driven deep in the London clay that will link towns far to the East of London with those on the West.
Ian Tyler, Chief Executive of Balfour Beatty, is a chartered accountant having worked with Arthur Andersen in London. He worked with Hanson plc and was Finance director of its subsidiary ARC Ltd. He joined Balfour Beatty in 1996 as Finance Director and was appointed Chief Operating Officer in August 2002, before becoming Chief Executive in January 2005.
The International Construction SuperConference provides an opportunity for construction leaders from many countries, disciplines and experiences to meet, exchange views and do business. For more information, visit:www.ConstructionSuperConference.com
