Domino’s Pizza posts strong sales figures despite the ongoing economic crisis.
Domino’s Pizza has delivered a recession-defying financial performance with a surge in third quarter sales in the UK and Ireland.
According to its quarter three interim management statement published today, Domino’s Pizza has experienced very strong sales in the 39 weeks to 27 September.
Like-for-like sales rose by 10.8%, beating forecasted predictions, in the company’s stores in the UK and Ireland. System sales during the period increased by 17.8% to £98.2 million, up from the £83.3m recorded at the same time last year.
The UK’s biggest pizza delivery firm has been able to benefit from the stay-at-home culture born out of the recession. More and more people are choosing to relax at home rather than eat out.
The strong sales figures are being attributed to marketing campaigns, including sponsorship of tv programme Britain’s Got Talent.
The online business also thrived despite the harsh economic conditions with a 43.1% rise in sales. In the UK, e-commerce sales rose by 39.9% to £52.7m and online orders now account for 27.2% of delivered sales.
Domino’s Pizza opened seven new stores in the quarter and created around 800 new jobs across the UK and Ireland. It now has a total of 583 stores and aims to open a further 50 stores this year.
Chris Moore, Chief Executive, commented: “We are particularly pleased with our strong performance during the period as the economic environment continues to be challenging.
“We still have to face some tough comparatives before the year end, but by focusing on the quality of our product and the excellence of our customer service, we are ready for the challenge.”
