Super fast broadband provider Fibrecity has connected its first 50 homes in Bournemouth.
Fibrecity, part of the i3 Group, this week announced that it has connected the first 50 homes to its super fast national fibre optic network in Bournemouth, and will continue to connect 2,000 homes per week.
It is the only broadband network in the UK that delivers a true fibre to the home (FTTH) experience and is capable of delivering next generation services including IPTV.
Bournemouth is the first of 15 town and city-wide fibre networks being built across the UK by Fibrecity over the next ten years. This unique and true FTTH infrastructure sees two fibres installed to each property that connects to the Fibrecity network.
One fibre enables homeowners to benefit from paid for services such as IPTV, telephony and super fast 100Mbps broadband and a separate 40Mbps fibre is dedicated to the council and will be used to deliver local services such as community TV and health services.
Elfed Thomas, CEO and founder of i3 Group, said: “Fibrecity is the only network that is building a national infrastructure to all homes, both new build and existing properties, that brings fibre into their living room. It does not at any point rely on the existing antiquated copper network like BT’s already outdated fibre to the cabinet network.”
The homes that have been connected in Bournemouth will showcase the capabilities of the Fibrecity infrastructure, which will grow in size over coming months by 2,000 homes per week and further still once work on additional Fibrecities begins.
Fibrecity uses i3 Group’s unique model that utilises the sewer system to lay the fibre optic fibre. This makes the rollout of its network commercially viable and reduces disruption to the local area as there is little or no road digging. As well as the network in Bournemouth, work will be starting on a Fibrecity in Dundee in the summer.
