Luton Airport has announced charges for dropping-off passengers.

Dropping off passengers at Luton Airport will now incur a £1 fee to “remind passengers of the ten-minute time allocation and to keep traffic flowing,” according to the airport.

Luton stated that it has developed its drop-off zone to improve passenger comfort and ease of travel.

The airport also charges a £1 fee for passengers’ use of plastic bags to place their liquids in prior to passing through security, plus a non-refundable £1 fee to use a luggage trolley.

In March, the airport also introduced a new ‘fast-track’ security lane, for which customers pay £3 to use in order to bypass the large queues through security. It is not the only airport to charge for this service – Liverpool, Leeds and Bristol also charge for the convenience, at a cost of up to £5 for the use of Bristol’s ‘FlyThru’ lane.

Nic Hutton, Luton Airport’s General Manager of Projects & Development, commented on the drop-off charge: “We have made this investment so that getting to the airport is easier and more convenient for all our passengers. Dropping passengers off can be a stressful experience; we have therefore given careful consideration to providing the right facilities and enough time for people to unload in a secure environment.

“Making a small charge reminds drivers of the ten minute time allocation and keeps the traffic flowing. By offering a choice of options we can provide an airport experience to suit the needs of all our passengers.”
