Rugged computer supplier Mobexx has launched a new pocket-sized computer for those in facilities management and field service.

The 2T Safari is suitable for law enforcement, meter reading, traffic management, agriculture, environmental testing, security, medical and hospitality markets.

It weighs less than 400 gm and the rugged IP65-rated hand held computer is only slightly larger than a palmtop but offers greater computing power, wider connectivity and an optional 40-hour battery. 

Built to last and easy to customise, Mobexx claim that the Safari will operate in all kinds of working conditions and provide reliable performance and an excellent return on investment.

Mark Dale-Lace, Director of Mobexx, says: “The 2T Safari is one of a kind and it outshines the competition. The flexibility and versatility it offers for custom applications is unique and will provide an excellent basis for any mobile application requiring a rugged, cost-effective device.

“The hand held covers all bases with a full set of features, plus it offers a level of customisation that is not found elsewhere. This is a small but highly significant product that will enable systems integrators and solutions providers with the ideal tool for applications that require a lightweight, ergonomic hand held computer.”
 
The Safari features a heat and chemical resistant case, a transflective TFT colour display, audio (.WAV) feedback, WLAN, Bluetooth, GPS, GPRS, and integrated 1D bar code scanning. The hand held can be equipped with either a 26 key or a 41 key alpha numeric keypad providing seamless integration into a wide variety of applications. Customised keypads are also available for specific applications.
 
This computer features 128 MB SRAM, 128 MB internal FLASH, as well as a user accessible SD card slot for additional mass storage. The hand held uses Microsoft Windows CE .NET 5.0 operating system and is equipped with a low battery power consuming Marvell PXA270 processor operating at 520 MHz. The Safari is also equipped with an expansion port for adding RFID, 2D bar code reading, GPS, as well as other industry or application specific modules.
