A new kind of social networking site has emerged – in the form of the exclusive Diamond Lounge – an online club where members are very carefully selected.
Launched in October 2007, London-based Diamond Lounge has received good reviews from some of its hand-selected members.
Unlike many of its contemporaries such as MySpace, Bebo and Facebook, Diamond Lounge seeks to limit its membership quota, carefully choosing who is allowed in – much like a VIP nightclub.
The exclusive online club brings together the world’s elite within exquisitely designed, “themed” social and business rooms, while advanced web 2.0 technology has been used to create what Arya Marafie, Diamond Lounge’s founder, claims is the most efficient and easy-to-use networking site in the world.
“Although Diamond Lounge is already a private environment, members are offered even greater privacy as they can choose who can view them by selecting the demographic characteristics of those they want to interact with. Members can only be seen and contacted by others whose characteristics fit what they are looking for. We then provide instant communication options by way of multi-party IM and video conferencing (in addition to traditional email).”
Interestingly, members can create different profiles and make different choices within each room, allowing the club to fulfil different needs simultaneously.
For example, Arya says: “Members can promote their business and make deals within the Boardroom while socialising (or even finding the perfect partner) within the Lounge.
“It actually has more in common with a real life private members’ club than a typical social networking site.”
Not all the networking will take place in the virtual world. Diamond Lounge will also issue invitations to parties on yachts and private jets in some of the most exotic locations in the world, as well as organising corporate hospitality events.
