Postal Strike: Update
Posted By admin On July 20, 2009 @ 2:54 pm In Business | 7 Comments
Postal workers continue to take strike action to get their message heard.
The Royal Mail has today (20 July) confirmed that it has been told by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) further strike action is set to take place on 21 July 2009, disrupting further postal services.
This bout of industrial action will affect the Ipswich Mail Centre.
In the statement Royal Mail released today, it said: “Royal Mail is disappointed the CWU is taking further industrial action when we have been delivering record quality of service for our customers.
“Royal Mail will continue to talk with the CWU and our people underlining the impact of any disruption on customers and Royal Mail’s business and reputation in these challenging economic times.”
This latest announcement follows several days of action at the end of June and early July, and more recently postal strikes affected various parts of the country during a 24-hour strike on 17 July.
Commenting on the most recent day of action, Dave Ward, CWU General Secretary, said: “There are serious and growing problems in the postal sector which urgently need resolving.
“The current cuts, bullying managers and ever-increasing workloads on a shrinking workforce cannot continue.”
According to BBC online, the strike action is set to escalate, with three days of walkouts on 25, 27, 28 July, with Royal Mail’s London distribution centre set to be affected on the latter two days.
