Asda slashes petrol prices to 90.9p per litre
Petrol now costs 90.9p per litre and diesel 105.9p per litre at Asda.
Asda is once again leading the supermarket petrol price war, by slashing prices on its forecourts to 90.9p – the lowest level since April 2007.
The cut, effective across all of its 172 petrol stations from today (19 November), is Asda’s tenth consecutive reduction since July 2008. The supermarket has also dropped diesel to 105.9p per litre.
Asda is calling for other supermarkets to follow suit, as petrol prices are currently averaging around 95p per litre – almost 5p more than the retailer’s new price.
Asda’s Trading Director, Darren Blackhurst, commented on the move: “With oil prices still falling, there is no need for petrol prices to be so high – it is simply ripping off motorists. Asda is committed to delivering the best and fairest prices for our customers and our continual price cuts prove that. Others should be following our lead.”
The new prices come as a result of the falling cost of oil, which has been helped by less demand for gasoline in the US.
The price gap between diesel and petrol is not expected to reduce in the near future, with diesel costs expected to remain high, Asda said.
