ASOS sales soar 90%

5:15pm GMT, Monday, 28 April 2008

ASOS’ full-year profits have topped £80m.

Burgeoning online retailer ASOS has posted a staggering 90% leap in full-year profits for the period ending 31 March 2008 – amounting to around £81 million.

Sales for the four weeks to 27 April 2008 were also up 80% year on year, staving off any concerns the e-retailer is to suffer the same woes as the UK high street.

ASOS Chief Executive, Nick Robertson, commented: “Despite the uncertain economic conditions, I remain optimistic about the prospects for ASOS. We continue to benefit from the increasing popularity of online shopping and we have made considerable investments in management, infrastructure, product ranges and marketing to support and sustain future growth.”

Robertson revealed that pre-tax profits will be slightly ahead of analysts’ forecasts – this will also take into account the one-off charge of approximately £1.1m relating to the closure of ASOS’ old warehouse.
