Brazilians get Nokia’s ‘Comes With Music’
Brazilians can now buy the Nokia 5800 Comes With Music.
Brazil is the first country in the Americas to receive Nokia’s ‘Comes With Music’ service – which allows users to download unlimited music tracks on their mobile phone.
With its 3.2″ widescreen touch screen, the Nokia 5800 is the first product to receive the music service, after having sold 3 million units since its arrival in the market in November 2008.
It will allow consumers to download more than three million tracks, and will be available from today (29 April 2009) at the Nokia Store in São Paulo and from Nokia’s online store (www.nokia.com.br/loja).
TIM is the first operator to sell the device, offering an unrestricted data package for two months as part of the contract. The cost of the Nokia 5800 Comes With Music is BRL 399.00 (£122) when signing for the TIM Brasil 250 plan, plus the mobile device unlimited data package.
Downloads can also be made via PC as well as directly to the device, and all tracks will be able to be stored after the contract has ended.
Almir Narcizo, President of Nokia Brazil, said: “We know that the Brazilian consumer is among the world’s top consumers of national music, consequently we made sure to contact major labels and local independent labels as well.
“With Nokia 5800 Comes With Music we are making available the opportunity to have access to this content to them and to everyone that enjoys our music, with a product that will revolutionize the ways of digital consumption.”
The Nokia 5800 is the first touch-screen device in Brazil compatible with TIM’s TV service, which allows customers to watch 15 channels of entertainment, sports, news and children’s programmes - among them Cartoon Network, CNN, Discovery Chanel, MTV Brasil, Nick, BandNews and Band.
Users can also upload to TIM Studio, a service that turns the customer into an authentic multimedia producer – and earn BRL 1.50 (46p) in credits for each 10 downloads of any content created.
Nokia is the world’s number one manufacturer of mobile devices and leader in the converging internet and communications industries. Yesterday, it announced plans to streamline its internal IT and Compatibility & Industry Collaboration activities in the Corporate Development Office unit – impacting 450 jobs globally.
