Nokia ‘Comes With Music’ service to rival Apple iTunes
Nokia will launch the 5310 XpressMusic ‘Comes With Music’ phone in October.
Nokia announces the launch of the ‘Comes With Music’ phone and service, which offers owners unlimited access to the Nokia Music Store.
The new service, which will first be launched in the UK, is being heralded as ‘a revolutionary way to discover and enjoy music’.
The world’s largest handset manufacturer has signed an exclusive deal with Carphone Warehouse to distribute the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic, which will go on sale in October. Carphone Warehouse has already started accepting pre-orders for the new phone.
Simon Ainslie, Nokia UK Managing Director, said: “Comes With Music is the most compelling digital music offer ever introduced to the UK. We’re thrilled to be working with Carphone Warehouse to bring Comes With Music to the UK.”
The Comes With Music phone will allow owners to download an unlimited number of tracks from the entire Nokia Music store catalogue, which holds approximately 2.1 million songs, including songs from Universal, Sony BMG and Warner.
Owners of the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic will enjoy the service for one year, after which they can buy a new phone to continue downloading new songs or keep their original device, which retains all functions and the downloaded music.
Nokia has yet to find a UK operator to subsidise the phone, meaning that the device is likely to cost upwards of £300 on a pay as you go basis when it is launched on 2 October.
Further financial details about the phone will be released in the next few weeks.

I’ve recently been tempted by Nokia and this sounds like a good deal; certainly something to pit against iPhone. The only catch might be restrictions on whether you can move your content.
