Orange launches mobile phone recycling service
Orange has launched the ‘Recycle and Reward’ scheme to encourage people to recycle old mobiles and laptops.
Mobile phone operator Orange has announced the launch of a new electronic goods recycling scheme, offering to trade old mobiles, laptops and personal music players for cash.
The ‘Recycle and Reward’ scheme is available in all Orange stores and is open to all members of public.
Old electrical goods can be taken to an Orange store where the monetary value of the items can be found out straight away. A cheque will then be sent to the customer within seven days.
According to Orange, two thirds of the British public have old mobiles phone stored at home, which equates to 90 million unused handsets worth around £450 million.
Taking an old Nokia N95 to an Orange store could fetch up to £85 on the ‘Recycle and Reward’ scheme and a Sony Ericsson C905 could be worth up to £75.
Any electronic devices with no monetary value can also be recycled in store for no charge.
Paul French, Head of Care Products at Orange, said: “At Orange, we’ve made some significant strides recently in reducing the environmental impact of our business.
“Recycle and Reward is just another small step, for us as a business and for the public, in our journey towards greener, more sustainable practices.”
