Penny celebrations start at M&S
M&S goes back to its roots with two million products available at its Penny Bazaar from Wednesday 20 May.
‘Don’t ask the price, it’s a penny’ – Marks and Spencer (M&S) is celebrating its 125th birthday by going back to its roots with a Penny Bazaar Bonanza for customers.
From Wednesday 20 May, all 28 M&S main stores across the UK will host an Original Penny Bazaar, offering a range of 20 different products at just one penny each. The range will consist of special commemorative products including cufflinks, ties, tea towels and mugs and cans of retro drinks and retro sweets.
Customers will be allowed up to five products each and every penny donated will go towards the M&S 125 Charity Challenge, which aims to raise £1.25 million for charities from May to September.
M&S Chairman Sir Stuart Rose will be launching the Penny Bazaar with model Twiggy at the company’s flagship store on Oxford St, London, and the offer will be on a ‘when it’s gone, it’s gone’ basis.
Sir Stuart said: “M&S has now been at the heart of Britain for 125 years and we believe that this is something worth celebrating. It’s been a tough year for us all but people are fed up with being fed up and we wanted to give our customers a real treat.”
M&S originally traded as a Penny Bazaar when it opened its doors back in 1884. Customers who arrive early for the 125th birthday celebrations will also be given a free peel and reveal card, giving them the chance to win one of 700,000 rewards, including 16 regional jackpots of £12,500.
