The Top 500 brands and banking brands have been revealed, with Walmart and HSBC topping the charts.
The world’s most valuable brands have been revealed by Brand Finance, with Walmart maintaining its position at the top of the league, closely followed by Google, Coca-Cola, IBM and Microsoft.
According to the annual survey, Walmart has a brand value of more than US$41,000 (£26,000). The discount stores serve customers and members more than 200 million times a week under 53 different banners and in 15 countries worldwide.
For the third year in a row, HSBC is top of the world’s banking brands, followed by the Bank of America, Santander, Wells Fargo and Citi. The total decline in the brand value of the Global Banking 500 league table is $209 billion – and 84% of this total loss has been felt among the top 100 brands.
David Haigh, CEO of Brand Finance plc, said: “This year’s Brand Finance Banking 500 shows how significant the recovery of global banking brands has been. The value of the Top 500 global bank brands is now 4% higher than in 2008, prior to the banking crisis.
“The total value of the Top 500 global bank brands is $716bn, an increase of 49% on 2009. There has been a significant shift in the balance of power globally away from the US and towards banks in emerging markets.”
