Zara opens first India store
Zara has opened its first store in Delhi, India.
Zara has opened its first store in India, situated in Delhi’s Select CityWalk shopping centre, with two more stores planned for the coming weeks – one for Mumbai and a second store in Delhi.
This expansion into India, as a joint venture with Tata, means that the Asia region will now account for 12% of group sales, following the group’s expansion into Japan in 1999.
The company is owned by the Inditex Group, which said: “India’s economy has grown quickly in recent years, and the country has a large population of shoppers who are keen on fashion and up to date on international trends.
“The country has a dozen cities whose populations each exceed three million people, and the Indian market promises substantial growth potential for Zara’s fashion offering.”
The new Mumbai store will be located in the Palladium Mall shopping centre, one of the busiest retail destinations in India’s most populous city, while the second Delhi outlet will be within the DLF Promenade Vasant Kunj mall. The company plans to roll out more locations in some of India’s largest cities.
Inditex is one of the world’s largest retailers, comprising of eight store formats – Zara, Zara Home, Massimo, Pull and Bear, Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, and Uterque – in 77 countries.
