Rolls Royce to cut 2,000 jobs in 2009
Rolls Royce has announced proposed job cuts of up to 2,000 employees globally.
Rolls Royce has announced 140 proposed job cuts at its Assembly and Test facility in Derby, in addition to a 4% reduction of its global workforce in 2009.
In addition to the current economic climate, Rolls Royce stated that delays on programmes – including delays with the Airbus A380 for which Rolls Royce supplies its Trent 900 engines – have contributed to its decision.
Sir John Rose, Chief Executive, said: “We are determined to maintain our focus on cost reduction and competitiveness as the world economy enters a challenging period. It is too early to determine the precise effects of the global economic downturn and programme delays. However, we wanted to give all our employees an early indication of the likely scale of the job reductions we expect in 2009.”
In January, the company announced a proposed reduction of up to 2,300 of its workforce, stating at the time that the “investments we have already made in management systems will help us deliver this simplified organisation.” Click here to read ICM’s news article at the time of the announcement.
Currently, Rolls Royce employs approximately 39,000 people worldwide, of which 60% are based in the UK.
