Thomas Cook Group has announced two international acquisition deals. Thomas Cook Group has announced two international acquisition deals.

The Thomas Cook Group has announced that it has acquired Canadian TriWest Travel Holdings (TTH) for C$114 million (over £56m), and has also submitted a binding offer for France’s Jet Tours.

TTH, a leading independent travel wholesaler in Canada, operates under two brands Fun Sun and Intair and last year achieved revenues of C$171.7m. The acquisition by Thomas Cook of 100% of TTH’s shares will mean that Thomas Cook will have created a nationwide leading independent travel business and will have access to an even larger customer base.

The binding offer submitted by Thomas Cook France for the acquisition of Jet Tours would result in a deal worth €70m (around £56m) and would create France’s third largest tour operator, with a market share of around 10%. The premium tour operator serves around 270,000 people every year and comprises the brands Club Eldorador and Austral Lagons, with revenues in 2007 a reported €313.7m.

Manny Fontenla-Novoa, Thomas Cook Group Plc’s Group Chief Executive, said: “Both of these acquisitions are fully in line with our strategy of becoming a leading independent travel provider and capturing growth and value in the mainstream business, as well as driving further consolidation across the sector. We see great opportunities in Jet Tours, which would be a strong fit with our existing proposition in France and would provide us with a platform for significant future growth in this important market.

“The acquisition of TriWest Travel Holdings will enable us to balance our revenue and profits between our mainstream charter business and independent travel brands, whilst significantly expanding our distribution reach and customer base in the region. Both deals offer substantial synergy opportunities and we look forward to working with both teams to deliver on our plans for future growth.”

The Thomas Cook Group Plc was formed in June 2007 by the merger of MyTravel Group Plc and Thomas Cook AG. An international leisure travel group with an annual revenue of €12 billion, more than 19 million people choose to travel with the company every year.

The deals with Jet Tours and TTH are both subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.
