Toyota expands global car recall
Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is recalling millions of vehicles globally due to a mechanical fault.
Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is recalling various models in the US, Europe and China over a mechanical fault that sees the accelerator pedal getting stuck on floor mats.
More than 1.1 million cars in the US are to be recalled only a day after Toyota announced it would be suspending the sales of eight US models.
Toyota also wishes to recall thousands of vehicles in China, due to the potentially hazardous car fault.
Last week, the car firm made the announcement to recall approximately 2.3 million vehicles in the US to correct sticking accelerator pedals.
A list of all the vehicles being recalled can be found on the Toyota website.
The extensive vehicle recall is the latest setback to befall the Japanese car maker, after vehicle recalls in previous months and global staff cuts.
In a statement, Group Vice President and Toyota Division General Manager Bob Carter said: “Helping ensure the safety of our customers and restoring confidence in Toyota are very important to our company.
“This action is necessary until a remedy is finalised. We’re making every effort to address this situation for our customers as quickly as possible.”
According to The Times online, the US House of Representatives has today (29 January) announced it is to launch an investigation into Toyota, due to the global recall and suspicion surrounding 19 vehicular-related deaths in the past decade.
Earlier this week, Toyota announced that it would be cutting 750 jobs at its Burnaston plant in the UK by August this year.
