Output from gas, electricity and water suppliers was 1.9% higher compared with the same period in 2006, with gas supply output up by 0.3%, water supply by 0.9% and electricity supply by 0.1%. A significant increase occurred between September and October when there was an increase of 2.5% in oil and gas production.

The figures are based on UK industry activity for the three months up to October 2007.

According to the Office for National Statistics, these production industries accounted for 18.6% of gross domestic product in 2003.
