Figures from the Office for National Statistics reveal an increase in manufacturing, electricity, gas, and water supply output.

Recent Index of Production figures from the Office for National Statistics show an increase in output from the manufacturing industry and from electricity, gas and water supply industries – however mining and quarrying industry output has decreased.

According to the statistics, manufacturing output rose by 0.3% between September and October, with a significant increase in the transport equipment industry’s output, of 1.2% – and within this transport sector the most significant increase was achieved by the aircraft industry with a rise in output of 4.7%.

Output from gas, electricity and water suppliers was 1.9% higher compared with the same period in 2006, with gas supply output up by 0.3%, water supply by 0.9% and electricity supply by 0.1%. A significant increase occurred between September and October when there was an increase of 2.5% in oil and gas production.

The figures are based on UK industry activity for the three months up to October 2007.

According to the Office for National Statistics, these production industries accounted for 18.6% of gross domestic product in 2003.
