AirAsia X launches UK-Asia budget flight
AirAsia has launched its low-cost London-Kuala Lumpur flight.
AirAsia X, the low-cost affiliate of the AirAsia group, has today launched a budget flight connecting London with Kuala Lumpur, flying five times a week out of Stansted airport.
This will be the first such budget flight of its kind. Passengers who flew on the inaugural flight paid as little as £99 for a return when the flights went on sale in November 2008.
According to the airline, the London-Kuala Lumpur route has proved most popular with those travelling between Australia and Europe who travel on what is affectionately dubbed the ‘kangaroo route’.
2009 has so far been a successful year for the airline, despite the current economic crisis. Tuesday 10 February was the airline’s busiest day ever, when 279,000 seats were sold in a single day.
AirAsia was founded in 2001 and is the leading – and largest – low-cost carrier in Asia, offering flights to more than 60 destinations and operating around 400 flights every day from its hubs in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. AirAsia X was launched in 2007 and focuses on low-cost, long-haul services.
