Bruce Poon Tip, Founder of G.A.P Adventures and Planeterra, has announced the organisations’ 2008 environmental projects.

G.A.P Adventures’ non-profit organisation, Planeterra, has announced its programme of projects designed to address the shortage of clean drinking water around the world.

The events will be held in conjunction with Earth Day 2008, 22 April, a day that will highlight global issues and host a variety of environmental projects.

Planeterra’s 2008 campaign will focus on providing communities with clean water – according to the organisation around 4,000 people die every day because of a lack of a clean and useable water supply. This year’s projects will include installing water tanks in Kenya, well-drilling in Guatemala, and providing water tanks to a remote village in the Himalayas.

Bruce Poon Tip, Founder of both G.A.P Adventures and Planeterra, explained: “More than 1.1 billion people don’t have access to clean drinking water. These projects will not only save lives in these regions, but will also change those lives in a fundamental way.”

G.A.P Adventures is a leader in the adventure travel industry and caters for more than 70,000 travellers every year. It founded Planeterra in 2007 in order to exercise responsible tourism and to ‘give back to the communities’ in the locations visited by its tours.
