Humans - biggest cause of climate change
A new report has concluded that much of climate change is caused by human activity.
Man-made greenhouse emissions are likely to be the main cause of climate change, says a report by the UK’s Met Office.
The review concluded that environmental changes were occurring because of human activity. The changes cited include: temperature increases; warming oceans; changes in rainfall; and humidity.
According to the study, the earth’s temperature has increased 0.75°c over the last century, with the last decade (2000-2009) described as the warmest on record – and human influence over this temperature increase has been detected on every continent.
In addition, the amount of sea-ice has been declining – at a rate of 600,000km2 per decade – which can “only be explained by human influence”, the report stated.
Peter Stott, Head of Climate Monitoring and Attribution, said: “The science reveals a consistent picture of global change that clearly bears the fingerprint of man-made greenhouse gas emissions.
“This shows the evidence of climate change has gone beyond temperature increases — it is now visible across our climate system and all regions of the planet. Our climate is changing now and it’s very likely human activity is to blame.”
According to international environment organisation Greenpeace, 150,000 people die every year as a result of climate change.
It believes that the solutions to climate change include: the use of clean fuel – two thirds of energy going into power stations is lost as waste heat; using vehicles with reduced emissions; stopping airport expansions; reducing industrial emissions; and reducing domestic waste, such as turning off electrical appliances left on standby.

Why has there not been any consideration for geothermal? Is it too cheap to meter
March 5th, 2010 at 5:08 pmLets have our Sundays back and shut the shops?
Goverments pay for max two children then you pay the rest.
You say that temperatures have gone up 0.75 C does that mean that man has done this or the change in the planets orbit the first of Milankovitch Cycles is the Earth’s eccentricity a cycle of about 100,000 years. These oscillations, from more elliptic to less elliptic, are of prime importance to glaciations in that it alters the distance from the Earth to the Sun the second Milankovitch Cycles Axial tilt, this Cycles, is the inclination of the Earth’s axis in relation to its plane of orbit around the Sun. Oscillations in the degree of Earth’s axial tilt occur on a periodicity of 41,000 years from 21.5 to 24.5 degrees giving more or less sun heating the planet. The third and final of the Milankovitch Cycles is Earth’s precession. Precession is the Earth’s slow wobble as it spins on axis. This wobbling of the Earth on its axis can be likened to a top running down, and beginning to wobble back and forth on its axis. This top-like wobble, or precession, has a periodicity of 23,000 years.
The question I would like to ask if no man was on earth would this 0.75C still exist or over population is the main reason it’s been a lot hotter in the medieval? So what was the answer to that one? There is evidence all over the world of advanced civilisation that’s moved on or destroyed because of the changes in the climate, where once it rained and now it doesn’t it’s a big question so just saying its man does not quite sound right nor does the global tax.
Absolute rubbish. Try and follow the evidence trail on their site and you get nowhere.
March 5th, 2010 at 5:14 pmWhat crap!
Only stupid fools believe “climate change” is man made.
Humans have tried since the beginning of time to control the weather/climate…NOW WE HAVE IT…cars—cool…what crap!!!!
The smartest scientists in the world also convinced everyone that the world was flat!!! JUNK SCIENCE FOR POLITICAL GAIN that’s all this is!—- Nonsense!
March 5th, 2010 at 7:34 pmThe UK Met office in general and Scott (quoted above, IPCC contributor) in particular have no credibility in this matter. They are too personally invested in AGW. They’ve went way out on the AGW limb that real scientists and time are sawing off and this is just an attempt to prop up that limb.
Scott is quoted above saying that man is the “only” explanation. What he doesn’t say is that man is the only explanation within their computer models which of course they have to adjust as necessary to fit their preconcieved outcome.
I have to agree with Mike, although, absolute rubbish, doesn’t seem to be quite strong enough, maybe absolute fraudulent rubbish would be more fitting.
