Aston Martin unveils £1 million super car.
Luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin unveiled the first £1 million car at the Geneva Auto Salon motor show earlier this year.
The One-77 is, according to Dr Ulrich Bex, Aston Martin’s Chief Executive, “Quite simply the ultimate expression of Aston Martin.” He said that the car “combines high-technology with hand-built craftsmanship, and demonstrates the unique capabilities and passion of our designers, engineers and technical partners.”
The One-77 is a limited edition and with a mere 77 to be made (hence the name), it looks likely to become an instant collector’s item. What makes the car so unique and valued at a considerable price is the ‘advanced technology and exotic materials’. Each car will be bespoke to its owner, with their involvement at every stage.
The lightweight and immensely rigid carbon fibre structural core – the monocoque, or ‘tub’, an integral part of the design –was conceived and designed at Aston’s Design Studio, based next to the manufacturing and engineering centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire. The company introduced a design studio in 2007 in order to fully integrate the design process into the heart of the company.
Top speed is predicted to be 200mph, with a 0-60mph time in just 3.5 seconds, making it one of the fastest cars of recent times.
Since the technical illustration was first unveiled at the Geneva show, the One-77 has gone on to win the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza design award at Villa d’Este, Lake Como, Italy. The first complete car received its premier public unveiling to a rapturous reception and eclipsed the competition when it received more than 30% of the total votes.
Commenting on the win, Aston Martin Design Director Marek Reichman said: “To win this award at its first showing is a testament to the Aston Martin team and the original concept.”
