South West train strikes suspended
South West Train drivers are not going ahead with strike action.
The South West train drivers’ strike scheduled to start today, Monday 31 March, has been suspended.
Train drivers had voted to strike for four days, however a statement from ASLEF, the train drivers’ union, confirmed that the strike had been suspended following “a formula agreed between the negotiators for the company and ASLEF.”
Stewart Palmer, South West Trains Managing Director, said: “I am very pleased ASLEF has suspended the strike action which was planned for next week as this would have caused disruption for thousands of passengers. Passengers can expect a normal service next week and I am delighted they will not be inconvenienced.”
The union will consider the draft agreement in mid-April and a referendum will be held to “judge its acceptability”. This will determine whether the strike action will go-ahead or be called off completely.
