National Express averts travel chaos
National Express leaps to the aid of travelling England fans by putting on extra rail and coach services.
England fans worried about getting to the World Cup Qualifier on 10 June may have their problems solved as National Express introduces new rail and coach services to get supporters to the gates at Wembley Stadium.
As previously reported by ICM, a 48-hour strike by London Underground workers (click here for the full story) is commencing on Tuesday 9 June at 18:59, and looked likely to cause mayhem for the 70,000 home and away supporters travelling to Wembley for the match against Andorra.
Kick-off is still planned for 20:15 and those fans that cannot get to the match will be offered full refunds.
Car-parking at the ground is severely restricted, so efforts by National Express at easing supporters’ woes will be welcomed. Britain’s number one coach operator will be running special direct coach services from Stevenage railway station directly to Wembley for those travelling on the East Coast Mainline, as well as those living in Stevenage.
Tina Martin of National Express said: “As an Official Supporter of the England Team and the Travel Partner to Wembley Stadium we want to get England fans to Wembley for the important World Cup Qualifier.
“In addition to our nationwide coach network, which links 57 towns across the UK to Wembley, providing these direct coach services from Stevenage we will ease the travel concerns of supporters helping them get to the game in time.”
