UK’s high speed rail service relocates
The Eurostar high-speed train service is now based at St. Pancras International, in central London.
After exactly 13 years, Eurostar, the high-speed train service between the UK and the Continent, has left its home at Waterloo International station and is now located at the new St. Pancras International station in central London.
Since its launch in 1994, the service has carried over 81 million passengers on more than 230,000 thousand trains. When travelling onboard the High Speed 1 train – the UK’s first high-speed line – from St. Pancras International, European journeys will be at least 20 minutes shorter compared with the old Waterloo International service.
Richard Brown, Chief Executive of Eurostar, said: “We are celebrating 13 momentous years since the birth of Eurostar, and I want to thank all those who have supported us, travelled with us and worked alongside us. We are hugely proud to have developed into the world’s leading international train operator, and pleased that the millions of travellers that we have brought through our terminal have also helped in the local regeneration of the Waterloo and South Bank areas.”
The Eurostar service operates up to 17 daily services to Paris and up to 10 daily services to Brussels. The St. Pancras International station will link with Ebbsfleet International (situated in Kent, UK), Ashford International, Paris, Brussels, Lille, Calais, Disneyland Resort Paris, Avignon and the French Alps.
The last Eurostar train to arrive at Waterloo International was the service from Paris, which arrived at 19:58. Services commenced from St Pancras International at 11:01 the next day, Wednesday 14 November.
