Environment Agency reveals hydropower hotspots

The Environment Agency has uncovered almost 26,000 potential hydropower hotspots in England and Wales, which it hopes will help tap into the power potential of British rivers.


The United Kingdom has experienced its coldest winter in more than 30 years, with a mean temperature of 1.5°c – only slightly up from the 1.2°c recorded in 1978/9.


An HSE report has suggested that the design for the build of some potential nuclear power stations may not be safe.


The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said that the cost of flood damage to homes and businesses in Scotland and Cumbria could exceed more than £100 million.
