Public sector cost cuts mean job losses, says CIPD

The CIPD says that public sector cutbacks mean more job cuts could be on the horizon, despite the UK’s apparent emergence from the recession.


BAE systems, one of the UK’s largest defence and aerospace companies, has announced it has begun consultations with staff over potential job losses.


BAE Systems plans to cut 642 jobs across eight UK sites as a result of a drop in orders and contracts at its Insyte business.


Leading health care company Johnson & Johnson has unveiled a number of cost-saving initiatives to help it save around $1.4 – $1.7 billion (£1.0 – £1.3bn) by 2011.


The world’s largest construction and mining equipment manufacturer Caterpillar has announced the axing of 2,500 permanent jobs in the US.
