Chelsea and Yorkshire BS in merger discussions

Two of the UK’s biggest building societies (BS) are in “advanced discussions” over a possible merger which would create a major force behind the Nationwide Building Society.


Following mounting speculation, the boards of British Airways (BA) and Iberia have confirmed they have agreed to a proposed merger – creating the world’s third largest airline.


British Airways (BA) has said that it is holding a board meeting to discuss a “potential transaction” with Spanish airline Iberia, which could result in a merger of the two carriers.


Ahead of publishing its final report, the UK’s Competition Commission (CC) has provisionally ruled that the proposed merger between Ticketmaster and Live Nation is anti-competitive.


Two of Japan’s biggest banks – Aozora and Shinsei – have announced plans to merge and create the sixth largest banking group in Japan, with assets of 18 trillion yen (£113bn).
