Profits soar for Barclays as it reveals 92% rise

UK bank Barclays has announced its full year results for 2009, showing profit before tax of £11,642 million – a rise of 92%.


The world’s leading steelmaker, ArcelorMittal, has reported third quarter net income of $903 million (£553m), returning to profit for the first time since 2008.


InterContinental Hotels Group has reported a disappointing first half of the year, as it reveals profits have dipped by 25% to $726 million (£441m).


ITV has issued its interim statement for the six months to 30 June 2009, and reported a staggering pre-tax loss of £105 million.


This week, two of the biggest oil companies have announced huge drops in profit in their Q2 results statements – both blaming the massive drop in oil prices for the fall.
