British Gas unveils record profit

Centrica-owned British Gas has reported a record rise in annual operating profit in 2009 for its residential arm to £595 million, a rise of 58% compared to 2008.


British Gas has announced a 7% price cut across its standard gas tariffs just a day after Ofgem said that domestic bills could rise by as much as 25% in the next 10 years.


Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has reported a 36% increase in its half-year profits for the six months to 20 September 2009 compared to the same period a year ago.


According to uSwitch, the average age of young people – ‘kidults’ – added to their parents’ car insurance has increased dramatically from 25 to 31 in just one year.


The Citizens Advice Bureau has seen a 46% increase in the number of people contacting them for advice on how to deal with fuel debts.
