Following an agreement with American hardware vendor Dell back in December, Tesco, a premier international retailer with operations in Europe and Asia, will sell the Dell XPS and Inspiron across stores in Britain, Ireland, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Dell, which previously sold its products to end users by mail order only, has now signed product distribution agreements with chain stores like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Staples in North America, Gome in China, and Bic Camera in Japan. Some Dell laptops are also being offered as incentives to Carphone Warehouse customers in the UK.
With Dell and Tesco’s proven expertise in both supply chain management and manufacturing execution, the agreement was the logical next step in Dell’s evolving global retail strategy.
Mark Ormerod, Vice President and General Manager, Consumer business for Dell’s Europe, Middle East and Africa operations, said: “With over 13 million customers per week shopping at Tesco’s stores, this deal will result in substantial exposure for Dell’s brand and products.”
Graham Harris, Tesco Commercial Director, said: “We are committed to helping our customers with the latest hi-tech products at great value prices, which makes teaming up with Dell a perfect fit. We are excited to offer our customers in the UK and in Europe a new and award-winning brand that was previously only available from the company direct.”
Uniquely enabled by its direct business model, Dell is a leading global systems and services company and No. 34 on the Fortune 500. For more information, visit: www.dell.com.
